You'll never have a 10 assist guy here if he has his way. Stevens likes to use multiple ball handlers. You can call Smart a point guard because he handles a lot, but reality is that they've always had another "point guard type" player with him. '17-18: Shane Larkin (after Kyrie was out and Rozier moved to starting) Smart has been a second unit player for us each of the last 3 years. I don't list a player's "position" by what he does on offense. If you can't guard over half the league, you don't play unless you're a freak offensive talent. Defensively he looks good, strong, quick, but probably quite limited to the kinds of players he's able to guard and the Celtics have a **** ton of highly switchable defenders (Smart, Brown, Tatum, Hayward, Theis, Langford, Williams, Williams all super-switchable), so if you aren't that, you have a huge mark against you. He's on a 3 year deal, he's cheap as hell and he's not going anywhere, but there are too many scorers ahead of him and he probably doesn't do anything else offensively. I like him, but he's a 10-12 minute guy on some nights against some opponents (assuming everyone is healthy). Hard to see a huge role for him unless they do some consolidating in the offseason. If all are healthy, and I'm a huge Wanamaker fan, Brad definitely 4th on the totem pole.Įdwards isn't a PG to me, I think he has a very different role. Maybe Wanamaker back on a league-min 1-year deal, but he'll probably have suitors who can give him more minutes. I imagine the plan is definitely to get Waters on 3+ year NBA deal next year. I browsed then addressed my stuff, sorry if you felt it was directed at you. That's cool my post are never directed to anyone unless quoted. We're on the same team, as long as you pull for the Celtics.Ģ) I agree about the big rotation, but that is a different thread, hence the title of "Waters, Edwards, Wannamaker".ģ) I agree 1000% about a Kemba, Brown, Tatum, Theis, and a real center would kill.
ġ) I didn't say we have a PG problem, just asking a question about rotations. Kemba brown Tatum thies ,and a real center would kill. I'd like to eventually move Tatum to sf the is at 4 and a legit center. move) g williams (smart but short in arm reach and height), timelord (never going to be healthy now we know why he fell) I hope we address in the draft a better center to grow with the jays. Poirer (garbage), thies (great job but overworked out of position.) Kanter (can't d, can't pass score only) And you want to draft another one next year? If we do it better be the 2nd round pick even. But let's dig further we also have waters, edwards(garbage),langford (rumored to be groomed at pg) Hayward (also plays some pg.)īut your telling me we have a pg problem? No we don't we simply by the facts have 7 dudes that can play the pg. All the while maker is avg 6.6.ppg 2.3apg 2 rpg. Kemba, smart, wannamaker is the line up for pg.
I also agree that Danny will keep a PG in the G-League.Ĭaptain green wrote:Let me lay this out. I do think that he can be a 2nd/3rd PG, depending upon the team. Wanamaker will land on his feet somewhere else. He needs to find that shot like in the Return this season. He'll also have to come up to playing 2nd String, when Smart goes to cover for someone in the Starting Lineup.Įdwards' time is ticking.
Waters should be our 3rd String PG next season. League pipe line, so I'm pretty sure we will pick one at some point. I also think Danny will always have a PG in the G. I don't think Edwards is going to make it, unless his shot REALLY starts to pick up, and not just in preseason against the Pistons. I think Waters should be our 3rd team PG and let Wannamaker walk. I think Smart's best position is as 2nd team PG, leader of the bench mob, and fill in starter. Snowman wrote:Does anyone believe either of these guys will be our second team point guard next season ? Who do we keep, and do we pick a PG in this PG heavy draft?
